Event Description:
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 31, 2015) - St. John and Myers: Antique and Period Jewelry is hosting a free “Ask the Expert” day with Professional Gemologist Louis Scholz on Saturday, April 18th from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. at their Lexington, Kentucky storefront at 400 Old Vine Street, Suite 100. Members of the public will have the opportunity to bring a family heirloom to St. John and Myers for a one-on-one verbal appraisal, a service which normally begins at $55 for a group of three items. There will be no charge for this community event, but participants are encouraged to sign up in advance as spaces are limited. Reservations can be made by calling St. John & Myers at 859-559-4242. “Louis is a Renaissance Man of the antique world; he knows about all types of antiques,” Olivia Johnson Scholz, President of St. John & Myers, says, “He has 30 years of experience as a professional gemologist and a broad background in the jewelry industry, not just with jewelry and gems, but also sterling silver, watches, coins and costume jewelry.” Mr. Scholz is a prominently featured jewelry expert on KET’s Kentucky Collectibles. Nationally known as a speaker on the subject of antique and period jewelry, his appearances include the AGS Southeastern Guild and Annual Conclave/Conference, the NAJA Annual Conference, and the ASA Master Gemologist Appraiser Course. Mr. Scholz is the only jeweler in Central Kentucky with expertise in antique and period jewelry, custom design, and restoration of antique jewelry. St. John and Myers has been named by national publication, InStore Magazine, as one of the “Coolest stores” in America. “The store’s aesthetic resonates thematically with its merchandise,” wrote Eileen McClelland of InStore Magazine, “Of St. John & Myers’ 16 showcases, 14 are devoted to antique and estate jewelry - pieces made between 1850 and 1960.” This is a rare opportunity for Central Kentuckians to find out how much their heirlooms are worth for no fee. They can reserve their time slot by calling St. John & Myers at 859-559-4242, e-mailing Galen Velonis at
