@330 Series: Benefits to Having a Community-Minded Business Model
Developing a community-minded business model for your company not only helps transform a community, but can also have a positive effect on your business’ brand. During the next Commerce Lexington Inc. @330 Series event presented by ManPower of Central Kentucky on Wednesday, April 22, from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. at CLX’s first floor conference room, a panel moderated by Shawn Burns of Fogle Keller Purdy, PLLC, will include Chris Eddie (Smiley Pete Publishing), Toa Green (Thai & Mighty Noodle Bowls and Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream), and Josh Nadzam (Lexington Housing Authority).
Join Toa, Chris, and Josh as they speak about the importance of community, how to start and sustain a community-first business and why it is absolutely essential in today's economy. Together they bring fresh, dynamic perspectives that complement each other well. Look for Toa to share how her desire to get society back to being "good neighbors" to each other is a foundation to her thriving businesses, Chris to talk about how his desire to avoid the perfunctory career path has helped raise millions for nonprofits in the Bluegrass, and Josh to share how after being on the receiving end of help throughout his impoverished childhood he is determined to pull others out of poverty through various community initiatives and the start of his own nonprofit.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Chris Eddie is co-founder, co-owner, and co-publisher of Smiley Pete Publishing, which includes Chevy Chaser Magazine, Southsider Magazine, Business Lexington, and tadoo.com, a virtual live music, arts, culture, and entertainment magazine, as well as the CRAVE Lexington Food & Music Festival. A partnership with the Blue Grass Community Foundation that created the Good Giving Guide Challenge has not only helped raise millions for community organizations, but earned Smiley Pete the 2013 Spirit Award from The Lexington Forum.

Raised by a single mother in the projects, Josh fought hard to overcome the adversities of poverty, a broken family, and other tragedies and eventually found his way to Kentucky as a walk-on to the University of Kentucky Track and Field Team. Since graduating from UK with his master's degree in social work, Josh has worked at the domestic violence shelter GreenHouse17 and currently works for the Lexington Housing Authority as a social worker.
